A duvet is a type of bedding that is flat and filled with feathers, cotton, wool or synthetic fibers. It is used as a single covering, and unlike a comforter, is not meant to be used along with sheets and blankets. A duvet is generally placed inside a cover that is generally made of cotton, and this is what we call a duvet cover. A duvet cover protects the duvet from getting all soiled up, and is easier to clean than the duvet itself. It also serves aesthetic purposes.
Antique and online stores sell antique and heirloom blankets made of matelasse fabric. Cost varies from extremely affordable to very expensive price depending on the material used and where it came from. Individual collectors may have some items made of matelasse fabric, but who would want to sell his/her cherished collections? Some people collect antique coverlets or blankets, hanging them on rods as decorative artifacts.
Down. This is the plumage that grows underneath a duck or a goose's outer feathers. It is very fluffy and soft. It protects the birds from the cold harsh weather in winter. Goose down is more expensive than duck down because goose is rarer, unlike duck which are readily available in different parts of Asia.
